BIOGRAPHY

I was educated and trained as an occupational therapist via a non-traditional route. I was first awarded an Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy degree in 1983 which allowed me to practice as a Certified and Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/L). While working full-time as a COTA/L, in Pittsburgh, PA, I flew to New York City on weekends for three years, to pursue and obtain my Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy degree, which I earned in 1987 from Dominican College. During the next several years, I worked at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, in the areas of stroke rehabilitation, burn care and outpatient hand rehabilitation. Through my responsibilities of educating fieldwork students and teaching new clinicians, I realized my desire to teach and enrolled in a Master of Science in Education program at Duquesne University which I earned in 1995. This degree marked the beginning of my transition from the clinic to academia. For the next several years, I taught at Duquesne University in the Occupational Therapy Department where I also earned my Doctorate in Education. At Duquesne University, I further assumed the responsibilities of Academic Fieldwork Coordinator in addition to teaching, which I performed full time until June of 2010. I was asked to teach in the OTD program at Chatham and I enthusiastically agreed as I was anxious to further my own experience in an online environment and to teach clinicians who are motivated to further their own development. I am now teaching full-time at Chatham with responsibilities in both the Entry-level Master's program and the online OTD Program. Beyond being an OT, my husband and I are the proud parents of two young adults and our family enjoys traveling, cooking together and relaxing away from the demands of work.
